Take the Bus, it’s Free With ID!

If you have a Notre Dame ID, any TRANSPO bus is free, anytime. So try taking the bus to work, and on your next weekend outing too! Route 7 takes you to Notre Dame. See TRANSPO for all other routes.

Bike to School—and to Work

Biking is great for your health, your wallet, and the environment! There are bike loops in dozens of locations around campus - check them out on the map of bike lanes in the South Bend region. Check out the South Bend Bike Garage, which has a mission to get more people on bikes.

Bike racks are located in dozens of locations around campus, including outside academic buildings and residence halls. Bike owners are strongly encouraged to use a U-bolt lock instead of traditional chain locks. Notre Dame Police Department provides a bike registration service for personal bicycles. Registration is free and can be completed in person (with the bicycle) at Hammes Mowbray Hall, by flagging down an NDPD officer. Bicycles parked or stored in violation of regulations may be removed and impounded at the owner’s expense. Abandoned, unsecured, or unregistered bikes may be impounded at the owner’s expense.

Electric Vehicle Rentals

Transportation Services is a key partner in helping the University reach its carbon neutrality goal, and has added electric vehicles to its vehicle rental fleet. Notre Dame employees now have the opportunity to choose an EV when traveling for University business.

Electric Vehicle Charging

Notre Dame offers campus commuters EV charging stations in certain parking lots. Access can vary depending on time, day, and campus affiliation. See NDPD's electric vehicle charging page for more details.

Electric Vehicle Parking

Notre Dame provides a limited number of preferred parking spaces for EV drivers to encourage the adoption of low-emissions commuting.  Access to these spaces requires a decal and can vary depending on time, day, and campus affiliation. Regional Transportation Planning

The Michiana Area Council of Governments (MACOG) is collaborating with South Bend Public Transportation (TRANSPO) to develop the CONNECT Transit Plan. CONNECT will address the area's long-range transportation plan, which includes bussing, walking, biking, and more.
