Update 2/9/2014 – After one week of competition, Notre Dame is currently in 80th place out of 200 participants in the Grand Champion Category. The University also sits in 33rd out of 259 participants in the Per Capita Classic and 28th out of 262 participants in the Gorilla Prize Category!

Students from Notre Dame’s Office of Sustainability began RecycleMania at the January 17th hockey game against Lake Superior State. Throughout the game, volunteers were positioned around the concourse to ensure that recyclable materials were placed in the arena’s recycling bins.

RecycleMania is an eight-week competition held each spring. Colleges and Universities across the United States and Canada report the amounts of recycling and trash collected each week and are ranked in various categories based on per-capita recycling, recycling rate as a percentage of total waste, and aggregate trash and recycling created. In 2013, Notre Dame ranked in the top 25% of each category. Be sure to do your part in this year’s competition by minimizing the amount of waste you create and placing all recyclable materials in the appropriate bins.
