This year, Earth Day will be at the height of fashion. On Sunday April 22nd at 4pm, GreeND’s annual Fashion Show will be held in the LaFortune Ballroom and will include outfits designed by both students and professionals, including four designers recently showcased at the New York Fashion Week. The event focuses on educating students about the sustainable apparel industry and raises awareness about how consumers can decrease the environmental footprint associated with their clothing purchases.

Nathalia Silvestre, GreeND Fashion Show Coordinator, recruited professional designers LAVUK, Vaute Couture, Laboratório Fashion and Auralís. These four designers feature clothing that is made from sustainable materials and that promotes concern for the environment. Laboratório Fashion creates beautiful accessories out of reused soda cans. LAVUK gives back to the environment by planting a tree for every purchase made.

The professionally designed sustainable clothing will supplement the outfits found at local consignment shops as well as designs submitted to the GreeND Fashion Show by Notre Dame students. “The student design contributions are fundamental to the show and allow us to see how much the ND community cares about sustainable fashion, and how inspiring it can be,” said Silvestre. Students are also contributing to the show by modeling the professionally designed, student designed, and consignment ensembles.

“The goal of the Fashion Show is to demonstrate how easy it is to make sustainable choices in regards to fashion," said Brianna Kunycky, Secretary of GreeND. "Whether you’re creative and can design an outfit from recycled materials or you simply choose pieces from a secondhand store or a friend’s closet, it is possible for you to look fashionable—sustainably.”
