Abstract
Managing the waste of today’s society is one of the greatest challenges of our time. The modern landfill is a feat of contemporary engineering, keeping our groundwater clean and controlling subsurface gas migration. But we can go further than just safe disposal – we can harness the methane from the trash we produce to sustainably fuel every facet of our economy – from critical transportation to keeping the lights on.
Biography
Megan Crowley is an Environmental Manager for Republic Services. She has worked in the solid waste industry for nearly a decade, concentrating on air compliance and landfill-gas-to-energy projects. In her current role, she is responsible for environmental compliance and engineering at solid waste facilities across Northwest Indiana.
Megan obtained a B.S. in Applied Ecology & Environmental Sciences from Michigan Technological University.
