What is the role of the river in our midst? How is the public educated about and involved with our river? Hear from a panel of river-loving locals who take different approaches to increasing community engagement with the river. Daragh’s talk will introduce the Elkhart-South Bend Aquatic Community Program, an effort that has been evaluating biological communities in the St. Joseph River Watershed for the past 20 years. Jonathan will use the combination of social media, events, and continued exposure to encourage community engagement with the river. Mat will introduce one of the fundamental principles of watershed management: how we use and manage the land has become the most significant factor in determining the health of our rivers, lakes, and streams.
