3rd Thursdays @ the Snite: Artist Talk by Willie Cole Identity, Representation, and Transformation

-

Location: Snite Museum of Art Map

“Once you can see beyond the obvious, you’re in a whole new way of living.”

-Willie Cole

This artist talk is in conjunction with Cole’s exhibition Making Everything Out of Anything.  Cole uses everyday household objects—irons, ironing boards, women’s shoes, hair dryers, bicycle parts—to create works that explore African-American history, consumerism, economics, contemporary politics, gender, and race.  He has been referred to as an  “urban archaeologist,” for exploring universal and cultural concepts through these common, often discarded materials.
