In 2013, Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon issued “A Life of Dignity for All,” arguing that the goal of the sustainable development agenda is “to create a just and prosperous world where all people realize their rights and live with dignity and hope.” Over the last fifty years, Catholic social teaching has advocated for a human right to development as a social and economic right of peoples. Both the United Nations and Pope Francis have called for a focus on people and planet as we reimagine the right to development. Integrating theory and experience, Prof. Meghan J. Clark, Assistant Professor of Theology and Religious Studies in Moral Theology at St. John's University, will offer insights from Catholic social teaching for seeking human and ecological solidarity.
