University Archives Coordinates Another Successful Free Shred Event

2017 Shred It

The annual Free Shred event gives Notre Dame faculty and staff the opportunity to dispose of their sensitive and personal documents in a safe and secure way. The event, organized by University Archives, received materials dropped off by 118 vehicles and diverted almost 3,500 pounds of shredded material from the landfill. Notre Dame Recycling removed the broken-down boxes participants left to be recycled, and security and traffic flow assistance was provided by Notre Dame Parking Services.

The annual shred event is one of many programs the University coordinates to divert items that can be recycled from ending up in area landfills. Other events like Old2Gold, FurnishND, and Game Day Recycling are just some of the programs the University uses to reach its goal of increasing our recycling rate to 67% by 2030. There are also everyday steps that each of us can take individually as well like using reusable bags and water bottles and avoiding over packaged goods and foods.

A big thank you to the University Archives staff and the staff at Shred-It for another successful event.
