Patrons of South Dining Hall do not need to go any further than the lobby of their favorite eating establishment to keep up to date with this year’s RecycleMania competition. Starting February 13th, a 6 foot by 4 foot scoreboard has taken up residence in the entryway of South Dining Hall. The scoreboard tracks the rankings in RecycleMania’s Gorilla category, which tracks bulk volume of recyclables collected by each university. The left column displays the leader in the category, while the right column tracks Notre Dame’s ranking. The scoreboard will be updated every week to keep students up to date and engaged with the competition.

“This year the Office of Sustainability is focusing on the competitive aspect of RecycleMania” said Max Ducey, the Office of Sustainability’s RecycleMania student intern, “we hope that the scoreboard will help students engage with the competition.”

In addition to the scoreboard in South Dining Hall, the Office is promoting the RecycleMania competition at Spring Basketball Games. Volunteers from various clubs and organizations are taking to the Purcell Pavilion concourse at halftime to remind fans to recycle. With the combined efforts of students and staff, Notre Dame hopes to improve its standing in the RecycleMania competition for 2014.
